Peter Boyd Photo Blog bio picture

Hello and welcome

I'm a photographer based in Yorkshire who specialises in wedding,
portrait and headshot photography. I also undertake commercial
commissions, including interior photography, theatre productions and
event coverage.

I am married to Kelly, my long suffering wife, and we live in Huddersfield with our cat, Simon.

I've always had a passion for photography, from watching my grandad
repair old cameras in his spare room to looking through the press
photography of my godfather.

I endeavour to create detailed, stunning and memorable images and my mantra is simple:- there's beauty in everything!

So, sit back with a cuppa and have a browse through my blog. Comments
are always welcome, so don't be shy (Although I will delete anything
that is abusive or makes fun of my hair!)

Enjoy...

Carla & Jonny’s Aynhoe Park Wedding

Right, so first of all I’m going to warn you that this is going to be a mammoth blog because it’s the amazing wedding of our competition winners – the most fantastic Carla and Jonny at the suitably spectacular surroundings of Aynhoe Park in the Cotswolds.

If you can’t remember all the way back to the beginning of the year (seriously – who can?) then take a look here to see their winning entry. It was definitely a creative entry and boded very well for just as creative a wedding and we weren’t at all let down! This wedding was amazing. I mean, any wedding that features Ferret Racing was always going to be a winner in our books!

Anyway, I’m not going to say too much during the blog as we think the photos tell the story of the day nicely so… here goes… hope you enjoy.

If you like what you see please feel free to leave comments at the end of this post, or click the ‘like’ button!

We’ve shot at the amazing Aynhoe Park before so were already prepared for the show. It’s a private mansion owned by a guy who is one serious collector of all things quirky. If you look closely during the blog you’ll spot a giant hare, a space rocket and a unicorn – among other things. Anyway, it’s here that we met Carla and the girls in the morning getting ready in the Bridal Suite.

And here’s the girl in question – Carla – looking fantastic even before hair and make-up!

Now Carla did what we advise all our brides to do and got ready just a little earlier so that we could get some fantastic shots before all the craziness starts.

As usual, while Pete was with the girls I jetted off to meet the guys (as much as you can jet anywhere in a Skoda). People often ask us why Pete’s with the girls and I’m with the guys in the morning and our standard answer is ‘It just works’. There’s probably some long psychological theory behind it but we don’t really care – we’ve just found that it works really well this way. Plus it means the bride gets to tell me anything she needs the groom to remember to do – like brush his teeth or not to drink too much!

Well, there wasn’t much drinking going on when I turned up but there was the obligatory bacon sandwiches.

Back with the girls. Love seeing the look on the Father of the Bride’s face when he first sees his daughter all ready to go.

Sadly, this vicar had heard some horror stories about some bad photographers messing up weddings so he wouldn’t allow Pete to stand at the front. At least he let us take photos from the back though so not too bad. I will warn all Brides and Grooms to be that, if you want photos of your ceremony, to check with your Vicar/Registrar BEFORE you choose the venue whether they allow photography. We do try and tell the Vicar’s that we are very discreet, don’t move around and don’t use flash but sometimes they have already been bitten and don’t want to take the risk.

Anyway, lecture over – back to the ceremony.

We still don’t know why Jonny had the word ‘Shark’ on his shoes… Maybe some mysteries aren’t meant to be solved.

And now for the long drive back to Aynhoe…

Which is actually next door to the Church. Well, if you’ve got a Porsche you should make use of it – it’s rude not to.

During the Engagement Shoot Jonny decided to go into ‘catalogue pose mode’ and point in a manly fashion at the sculptures. He loved the result so much that he decided to recreate the image.

Carla just told Jonny that she never really liked Scrabble.

Carla’s dad’s speech was one of the best we’ve heard… and he had visual aids. Apparently, when she was young, Carla liked to write to her parents to tell them about things that were happening in her life. The letter her dad decided to share with everyone was probably the saddest thing I’d ever heard. Yes, even sadder than Bambi. You can’t really read it here so I’ll tell you what it said…

“Nobody likes me. Evrybody bes horbile to me. Evrybody blames it on me.” 1,2,3, aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Now, you may have got the hint that Carla and Jonny enjoy their word games and their Table Plan was no exception. I love that their guests had to do some puzzle solving in order to find out what table they were on. Yeah – make them work for their food! 🙂

Thank you Carla and Jonny for being such amazing competition winners and for making working on my birthday so much fun! May you have a great life together with many games of scrabble and may Carla let Jonny win at least once or twice.
