Hello and welcome

I'm a photographer based in Yorkshire who specialises in wedding,
portrait and headshot photography. I also undertake commercial
commissions, including interior photography, theatre productions and
event coverage.

I am married to Kelly, my long suffering wife, and we live in Huddersfield with our cat, Simon.

I've always had a passion for photography, from watching my grandad
repair old cameras in his spare room to looking through the press
photography of my godfather.

I endeavour to create detailed, stunning and memorable images and my mantra is simple:- there's beauty in everything!

So, sit back with a cuppa and have a browse through my blog. Comments
are always welcome, so don't be shy (Although I will delete anything
that is abusive or makes fun of my hair!)

Laura & Russ’ Wentbridge House Engagement Shoot

Last weekend we met up with the lovely Laura & Russ for their Engagement shoot at Wentbridge House Hotel. As they’re getting married there it seemed the ideal opportunity to have a mutual nosey around for our favourite photo spots. Laura & Russ had also brought along their two dogs (as well as someone to look after them), so we couldn’t resist letting them get in on the photos for a bit!

Carefully avoiding the wedding that was taking place at the same time, we went for a wander around the grounds. Here’s a selection from the day…

Laura & Phil’s Nostell Priory PhotoBooth Fun

We thought we’d share some of Laura and Phil’s PhotoBooth pictures from their Nostell Priory wedding a few weeks ago. The PhotoBooth is always great fun. Everyone gets involved – from toddlers to grandparents – and we make it our mission to get a snap of every guest looking silly in fancy-dress!

Laura & Phil’s Nostell Priory Wedding

April 28, 2013

Yesterday we had the pleasure of joining Laura & Phil for their wedding day at Nostell Priory, a National Trust venue just south of Wakefield and a favourite of Kelly and I.

The day began with Laura’s preparations taking place at the impressive Oulton Hall (where she and Phil had also booked a couple of nights after the wedding to recover!), whilst Phil and his entourage spruced up at Hotel St. Pierre. Amidst surprise showers and beaming sunshine it was then on to Nostell Priory for the ceremony. Laura & Phil had chosen to make their vows in the ceremony room of the main building and quite rightly so, as it’s one of the more impressive rooms I’ve photographed and is flooded with natural light. Fortunately, after the ceremony the sun had been out long enough to render the balcony safe, so we were able to get all the guests outside for a big group photo. So, with the official part over we made our way to the riding school building for, as the Registrar put it, ‘Party Time’! Nostell weddings are managed by Dine Services, who always put on a great spread and are a lovely bunch of people to boot.

Despite the typical British April weather we managed to get through the day with minimal soakings and had a thoroughly good time. Anyway here are a few of our favourites from the day…

Bridal Shoot at The National Railway Museum

April 26, 2013

Last Sunday we were exhibiting at the Brides Up North Luxury Wedding Exhibition at the amazing National Railway Museum. Whilst there we managed to fit in an impromptu model shoot for The Little Bridal Company – a good industry friend of ours and an absolutley amazing dress designer and maker.

So I (wo)manned the stall while Pete went off with five girls in gorgeous dresses! (Now I stop to think about it I’ve decided that, as balance, I’m definitely going to have to do a shoot where I go off with five ‘grooms’!)

The dresses are all made by Becky of The Little Bridal Company, the gorgeous bouquets in the shots were loaned by Love Bouquets, the make-up was done by Emily Jayne Make-Up, and the bus in the shoot is from the Yorkshire Heritage Bus Company.

Natalie & Howard’s Chevin Country Park Hotel Engagement Shoot

So, on Thursday last week we took a trip to the beautiful Chevin Country Park Hotel to meet up with Natalie and Howard for their Engagement Shoot.

We always start off by going through all the details of the day, whilst having a good catch-up and a nice cup of coffee. The weather was threatening to rain all throughout this chat right up until the point at which we got up to go outside – then it stopped threatening and actually started raining!

Luckily this wasn’t a problem for us because, being mainly British Wedding Photographers, we always carry umbrellas in a variety of colours. It just so happened that Natalie and Howard has chosen red accent colours in their outfits and we had the perfect red umbrella to match. Score!

Chevin Country Park Hotel is really a very fancy log cabin style hotel with some gorgeous log corridors inside which we decided to take advantage of. We couldn’t decide whether we liked the warm, cosy, log-cabiney feeling of the colour photo or the cool, more graphic black and white photo. So we’ve blogged both :) .

April 15, 2013 - 11:52 am Howard Gray - Just a couple of quick lines to say how much myself and Natalie enjoyed our engagement shoot in the good company of Peter and Kelly. Yes we were laughing in the rain but I believe the inclement weather added something extra to the photos. I love the colour, texture and the depth of the images. Having said that for the wedding day I hope Peter and Kelly manage to capture some magic moments in lovely warm sunshine. It's hard to pick a favourite from these images as my favourite keeps on changing. Looking forward to meeting up with Peter and Kelly again in a few weeks time :-)
